Getting To Know the Medical Staff


Our medical staff is a group of well-trained, caring individuals who work closely together in providing excellent care for those with hay fever, asthma, sinusitis, hives, and other allergic disorders.

Dr. Morris BeckDr. Morris Beck, M.D. is the founder of Asthma and Allergy Associates of Florida and was in practice for over 45 years. He is the former Chief of Allergy at Miami Children’s Hospital as well as the Veteran’s Hospital in Miami. Dr. Beck is considered one of South Florida’s experts on allergic diseases and was recently voted one of South Florida’s “Top Doctors” He has lectured extensively in allergic diseases particularly food allergy and asthma. Dr. Beck is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology as well as the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology and a Fellow of the College of Allergy and Immunology. He is also a member of the Florida Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society. Dr. Beck recently retired and is currently residing in California.


Dr. Mark YoungDr. Mark Young, M.D. performed his Allergy/Immunology training at Georgetown University. He is the past Associate Director of the Department of Allergy/Immunology at Miami Children's Hospital. He often lectures to physicians on Allergic Rhinitis and on the proper use of antihistamines. Dr. Young is certified by the American Board of Allergy/Immunology and a he is a member of the Florida Allergy Asthma and Immunology Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Dr. Young has been selected as one of the “Top Doctors” in his specialty. Dr. Young speaks English and Spanish.



Dr. Elena UbalsDr. Elena Ubals, M.D. completed her fellowship training at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She has a particular interest in insect sting allergy and drug allergy; she lectures extensively on these and other allergic disorders. She is the Past Interim Director of Allergy at Miami Children’s Hospital. Dr. Ubals is certified by the American Board of Allergy/Immunology and a member of the Florida Allergy Asthma and Immunology Society. She was recently selected as one of the "Top Doctors" in her specialty. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology as well as the American College of Allergy and Immunology. She speaks English and Spanish.


Dr. Neil GershmanDr. Neil Gershman, M.D. completed both his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Miami. He did his Internal Medicine training at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his Allergy/Immunology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. During the fellowship he concentrated on asthma research involving inhaled steroids and other anti-asthma drugs. Dr. Gershman is certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. He is the past editor of the Florida Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology website. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology as well as the American College of Allergy and Immunology.


Dr. Nina RamirezDr. Nina Ramirez, M.D. is a native of New York City. She graduated from Cornell University Medical College in 1978, and completed her residency training in Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at the Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In July 2000, after 17 years in private practice, Dr. Ramirez returned to Fellowship training in the field of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology at the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine in Tampa. She has lectured frequently and is an author on issues related to allergy and pulmonary diseases. Dr. Ramirez also has participated in numerous clinical research trials. Of special interest to her are novel therapeutic options for allergic disease. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, and is now Board Eligible in Adult and Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Ramirez is a Fellow of the American Academy Of Pediatrics, the American College Of Chest Physicians, and a member of the American Academy Of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.


Dr. Barry J. MarkDr. Barry J. Mark, M.D. completed his Allergy & Immunology fellowship at Saint Louis University Hospital, the St. Louis V.A. Medical Center, and Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Dr. Mark is board certified in both Allergy & Immunology and Internal Medicine.


Dr. Edith E. AndradeDr. Edith E. Andrade, M.D. completed her undergraduate studies at New York University Washington Square College in NYC, NY and received her Medical Degree from University of Zaragoza, Spain. She completed her Pediatric residency training at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and her Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Andrade is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and certified and re-certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She is on staff at Miami Children's and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and a member of FAAIS. Dr. Andrade speaks English and Spanish.


Dr. Maureen E. MillerDr. Maureen E. Miller, M.D. joined Asthma & Allergy Associates of FL, P.A. in November 2005, but has been practicing in South Florida community since 1996. She received her B.S. in Biology from the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. in 1987 and her medical degree from University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa in 1991. Dr. Miller completed her residency in International Medicine at the Maine Medical Center and her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Cincinnati. She is a Diplomat of the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology . She is also a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the Joint Council of Allergy and Immunology and the Florida Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Society. Her particular areas of interest include asthma and food allergies.


Dr. Sheldon FormanDr. Sheldon Forman, M.D. graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his residency in internal medicine at Milwaukee County Hospital and his fellowship in allergy and immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he held the rank of Asst. Clinical Professor. He held the rank of Major and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. Dr. Forman maintained a practice in allergy and immunology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for over 30 years and served as president of the Wisconsin Allergy Society. Dr. Forman is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), and is a member of the Broward/Palm Beach Allergy Society. He has published and conducted research investigations in allergic pulmonary diseases. He joined Asthma and Allergy Associates following his relocation to south Florida in 2007 with his wife Narda. Dr. Forman currently sees adult and pediatric patients with asthma and allergic diseases in the East Boca office.


Dr. Jose  N. MorenoDr. Jose N. Moreno, M.D. completed both his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Puerto Rico. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University Hospital in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and the San Juan City Hospital. His fellowship in Allergy and Immunology along with a Masters in Science was completed at the University of Michigan. Dr. Moreno is board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology with re- certification in 1991 and 2001. Dr. Moreno has had an illustrious career in academic medicine. He was Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Ruiz-Arnau Hospital in Bayamon, Puerto Rico; Chief of the Allergy Section of Clinical Medicine at San Juan City Hospital; Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and later Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine since 1988 and 1996 respectively. He retired from the University of Miami in 2007. Dr. Moreno has published extensively in the medical literature and conducted medical research in the areas of Drug Allergies; HIV/Aids, Immune modulators and angioedema. He lectures nationally and internationally in the fields of Allergy and Immunology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians; Member of the Infectious Disease Society of America; American Academy of HIV Medicine and John Sheldon Allergy Society. Dr. Moreno has been selected among America's Top Doctors and Florida Super Doctors. He joined Asthma & Allergy Associates of Florida, PA. In January of 2008.


Dr. Zurik WaxenghiserDr. Zurik Waxenghiser was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He completed his allergy and immunology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995 after completing a pediatric residency at Women and Children=s Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. He has been practicing allergy and immunology since moving to Miami in 1995. Dr. Waxenghiser joined Asthma and Allergy Associates in January of 2008. He is board certified in pediatrics and board eligible in allergy and immunology. He is a current member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology ,the American College of Allergy, Asthma and immunology and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

Marilyn De La Paz, P.A.CMarilyn De La Paz, P.A.C (Certified Physician Assistant) Marilyn is a Certified Physician Assistant by the Florida Medical Board of Medicine. She is an International Medical Graduate who received her Medical Degree (Doctor of Medicine) from Universidad Central del Este. She has done clinical rotations in most teaching hospitals in South Florida. Marilyn is well trained in asthma, allergy, and immunology; has been in our practice since 1992. Her areas of expertise range from urticaria, angioedema, asthma management, and allergic disease in general. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistant, a Fellow of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistant, and a member of the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Society. She has been involved in the Allergy Clinic at the Miami Children’s Hospital. She has organized the Allergy Journal Club for Dade and Broward County for over 10 years together with the Florida Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society. She has been recognized as Who’s Who in Allergy and Immunology Society due to her professionalism and excellence in patient care.


Dana Blasko, PADana Blasko, P.A. (Certified Physician's Assistant) hails from State Island, NY where she graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science degree from Wagner College. She received her Physician Assistant Certificate from Bayley Seton Hospital in 1997. Her clinical rotations were done at Bayley as well as St. Vincent's Medical Center and Lutheran Medical Center. She received her Florida accreditation in January 2002, and has practiced as a PA at four offices since August 1997. She is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National leadership Honor Society, and was awarded a Dean's Merit Academic Scholarship and Leehman's Academic Scholarship 2 years in a row.


Carlos J. Moreno P.A.-C.Carlos J. Moreno P.A.-C. (Certified Physician Assistant) Carlos obtained his Associates Degree of Physician Assistant from Miami Dade College and received his NCCPA Florida accreditation in September 2003. His clinical rotations were completed at Jackson Memorial Hospital and VA Hospital plus other Health Care Centers in Miami’s under served areas. He is a Member of the Florida Association of Physician Assistant and the American Association of Physician Assistant. Carlos also has a previous Associate Degree in Nursing where he performed as a Registered Nurse in the Telemetry, Intensive Care Unit, Post Operative Open Heart Unit and Emergency Room where he worked for 7 years before joining us. He has practiced as a Physician Assistant with our group since January 2004.


Leslie C. Calderon P.A.-C.Leslie C. Calderon P.A.-C. (Certified Physician Assistant) Leslie was born in Lima Peru. She obtained her Bachelors of Health Science degree from the University of Miami and her Masters of Science along with a Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant from Nova Southeastern University and received her NCCPA Florida accreditation in October 2007. Her clinical rotations were completed at the Miami VA Hospital as well as Joe DiMaggio Hospital and other Health Care Centers in both Miami and Broward Counties. She is a Member of the Florida Association of Physician Assistant the American Association of Physician Assistant. She has practiced as a Physician Assistant with our group since the month of September, 2007.


Theresa Lightbody, A.R.N.P.Theresa Lightbody, A.R.N.P. (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) received her Master's degree in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with Summa Cum Laude honors also from Florida Atlantic University. Theresa is a board certified Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and a member of the South Florida Council of Advanced Practice Nurses. Of interest to her are all aspects of medical research in the specialty of asthma, allergy, and immunology.
